AE CS3 Adjustment Layer clips over brights
on Aug 4, 2011 at 11:46:02 am

Hi everyone,

Has anyone experirenced this issue. I import an edit from PPro CS3 into AE CS3 and bump the project to 32bpc. I optimize my my footage with a levels adjustment and my over brights are indicated correctly in the Info Pallet. When I add an empty adjustment layer above the footage item the Info Pallet now indicates the over brights are clipped.

I fired up AE CS3 to try to replicate this, but I'm seeing the correct behavior here -- a blank adjustment layer is not clipping the overbrights on Levels-adjusted footage in a 32 bpc project.

Are you sure there isn't an 8-bit or 16-bit effect applied somewhere?

I'm sure no 8 0r 16 bit effects are in it. I tried starting new projects with th same Premiere file a couple of diferen't times. This problem is new so I suspect I have a corrupted file in AE somewhere.

I think reinstalling AE is probably what I will need to do.

Does it make a difference if you import the media file directly into AE, rather than importing the edit?

I tried that too, and the same problem.

Maybe it's possible that the Info palette is wrong?

Try this -- add an Exposure effect to the footage and kick it up 4 stops or so. Now add an Exposure effect to the adjustment layer and pull it down 4 stops.

Did the image clip?

I tested it out on my laptop and it worked as it should, so I assumed there was a corrupted file somewhere. I reinstalled AE and everything so far is working as it should.

Thanks so much for your assisance and suggestions.
