Today I started using a green screen for the first time. I'm using the keylight plugin in After Effects CS5 t0 key out the screen. For some reason, my footage looks very grainy once I do this. How do I get my footage to be less grainy?

Thanks in advance

Convince yourself you have a good key pulled -- solid core, nice edges -- by looking at Keylight's Status view. Don't worry about the resulting grain.
Then use the layer as an Alpha Matte for the same footage with no Keylight applied.

Dave has steered you down the right path. For a very detailed discussion about this workflow, see Mark Christiansen's book After Effects Visual Effects and Compositing Studio Techniques.

There are a lot of good resources for keying here.
