I am working in After Effects and I have a pan shot of a room where I am overlaying shape layers to specific walls to show what the walls are made of. There are two colors and with the pan I'd like each shape to stay on the wall. I can do this mostly but just animating the position, but when I want to animate the actual points of the shape so the shape changes what it looks like, I don't know how to animate that with key frames. It's similar to rotoscoping I'd guess, but I don't know how to do that effectively either. Anything to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

It's just a matter of animating the Path property---no different from animating mask paths.

One thing to note is that you only have a Path property for your shape layer if you created a Bezier shape, not a parametric shape.
