Buy a Small Tree or Hire a a Avid ISIS

I have a film starting in the next couple of months and I was looking at option for my edit room. I will have 1 editor and 2 assistants working on Avid MC and I will buy 3 three iMac and use a thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor (blackmagic or AJA) for client monitor. I have got a quote for a Small Tree GraniteSTOR TitaniumZ-5-20 with the FlavourSys Mint (with 1 years support) or I could just hire a Avid ISIS to link my iMac.

I think 1 wound save money with the hiring option for this job but then I would not have a shared storage system after it. My preferred option it to buy the Small Tree but I wonder if anyone think I would have less trouble hiring the shared storage than buying.

Bill,

This is more of an economical question than a technical one.

The rented ISIS would presumably come with tech support and would give you the
confidence of a smooth end user experience. THe "purchased" system leaves you
responsible for operation, set up and maintenance and still doesn't give you the
shared workflow of an ISIS.

If the money doesn't matter, I'd vote for the rented ISIS.

Happy editing.

Bill,

With all due respect to Mark, the TitaniumZ is exceptionally easy to set up. Our support is with you all the way.

Thanks Mark for the reply.

I would be getting the MINT software that Tim Ward mentions so I would have the shared projects of the ISIS. So that levels the playing field a bit between the two options.

I think my editor would be more happy about using the ISIS just because he has used that before.

I am still most keen on the Small Tree option and with the support of my reseller here in the UK and Small Tree in the US hopeful I will be fine and the benefits of owning the system will work out in the long run.
