We're shooting with a HPX2000 with a Intra card installed. So far, rather we shoot 720P 60 or 1080i we get a fair amount of noise in low light areas of each scene. Of course, when we run a line direct to our Panasonic 17HD monitor, it looks great. It's always the recorded/compressed image that has noise. I've been using a factory setting, Vivid setting, the film-1 setting, as well as a some other personal settings. Our DVCPROHD setting also has a fair amount of noise. I just sent the camera back to Panasonic and it checked out fine. Any ideas?

Do you have the Dynamic Range Stretch on? Some folks think this is something you leave on all the time and it is not. If the scene doesn't need it, it should be turned off.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Any chance you can post a few seconds of material?

A tech from Panasonic thinks the issue may be that I'm using Pro Res HQ for importing the files and not 10 bit raw. I wasn't sure how to import a 10 bit file unless I use our HD log program, which I don't have in the field. Do you think this could be the problem? Do you know how to import 10bit into FCP 2? I uploaded some sample video as well. Sorry for my delay on getting back, I'm on-location shooting, (different system). Thanks in advance!

Currently as of right now, the ONLY way to get 10bit material from AVC-Intra in to FCP is the Log and transfer method as it is the only process that will handle the bit depth properly.

Quicktime can't do it, and any other application that uses Quicktime can't do it, like HD log. HG log does an 8 bit decode of the 10bit AVC-I material. Careful with that.

It is not a problem to use log and transfer.

Where's the footage you uploaded?

Jeremy

You mention you uploaded some sample files, but did not say where...
