"clean look" HD settings
on Feb 11, 2009 at 9:50:08 pm

I have an HVX200. I'm shooting a simple tight shot on a clean white background of a hand pressing a red "NO" button and a green "YES" button.

I want to shoot it HD with the cleanest look possible. Any recommendations for camera settings to best achieve this?

What does clean mean to you?

#1 way to get a "Clean look" like an Apple commercial is to light it as well Apple does, without great lighting video will suffer. Gain is not a look, it is a setting, when you gain up you add noise, so don't gain up.

Camera's sweet setting is 720p.

Ok there you go- if clean = low noise/grain then use a waveform monitor to make sure you have nothing in your frame under or overexposed. And light to a decent stop without any gain or detail dialed in.

thanks guys! I think I'm squared away on my lighting and gain settings, but are there any camera menu settings or presets that you guys really like for good looking skin tones against a white background?

Nothing trumps a good monitor because every skin tone and lighting setup is different, there's no one size fits all.
