P2 metadata and external drives
on Jun 13, 2008 at 7:33:05 pm

So, I have 3 external drives and Post wants me to enter metadata of the shots and scene.
For that info to transfer to the external drives do I first have to import to FCP, enter info at
the Log and Transfer window, import to bin...THEN what?

I'm on a laptop so no room to save on internal hard drive.

P2 Log and HD Log from Imagine Products both allow you to view and enter metadata while viewing the mxf clips directly on the hard drives connected to your laptop.

It sort of depends what they mean? Metadata at the MXF level before ingest into FCP. Or FCP logging data in an FCP project. The former- you would use Imagine's HDLog or Panasonic's P2CMS program. The latter you would just do in FCP. Also you sound like a prime candidate for switching over to Final Cut Server which is the best metadata solution for working in a multi-user environment:
