Illuminate unlit areas of a geometry (no backlight)
on Apr 13, 2019 at 12:19:15 am

Hi guys. I've been trying to learn C4D for the past days (I was using 3ds Max before).

I'm creating Earth and I want to add a Luminance layer that contains a bitmap with the city lights. However, I don't this lights to show on the illuminated part of the planet. That's why I added a backlight shader.

Unfortunately, I can't control how much the lights intersect the illuminated area. The backlight shader stops and I get a black line between the illuminated area and the backlight shader.

Any ideia on how I can achieve this effect?

Thanks!

put the night lights image into a layer with the Backlight shader set to multiply (or whatever works best).

Thank you for your help!

I was doing that, but the problem is: I want the night lights to overlap the diffuse map. Cause if they don't overlap, the transition between then looks kinda bad.
