optimizing for bevel

Hi there,

I'm doing a lot of product visuals for electrical components. The files I am getting from the customer are STEP, which are converted to OBJ before importing to cinema. Everything is fine, except that I have hard time beveling any of the edges to make the renders look more realistic. The geometry is a total mess.
Any idea on how tho handle stuff like that?

in my experience with CAD import (limited) the best solution is bevel it in the original program.
R20's greatly expanded CAD import might remove the .obj step

Agree with Brian, but if those aren't options, I find I get the best results by selecting and melting as many extraneous edges as possible.

Thought I've might have missed some feature or option, since I'm relatively new to 3D. But since you both suggested pre-beveling or manual beveling I'm gonna stick with that. Thank you!
