Making to objects on the same plane cut each other out

Hi guys

What is the best way to have an object (logo) cut out another object (cylinder) so that the logo and the face of the cylinder are on the same plane? I want to texture both differently, but the need to be flush with each other.

Each time i have pushed the extruded logo through the face of the cylinder, it iether pushes all the way through or there is a slight heigh difference which the lighting then exaggerates with shadows.

Thanks a lot

why not put the logo as a decal on the cylinder?

I had not thought about doing it that way. I guess it was because i have been playing around with different metal textures as opposed to using the colours from the logo.

it can be done with Booles - this is one way (there are probably many more) 10343_booleembeddedlogo.c4d.zip

Taking this one step further: Is there a way yet to make one object cut another?

Example: A lofted zigzag shape cutting a sphere, so that hou can then pull apart the two parts of the cht sphere and have the saw-tooth edges on each side?

It's so very hard to believe sith all C4D can do, that this should be impossible up through R17, no??

Hugs to the person who tells me how this is indeed possible. :)

Cinema doesn't have a built in function to cut objects with planes, but it's not terribly difficult to extrude a planar object a tiny bit and use the boolean object to cut with it. Then it's just a question of making the boolean editable and joining the objects together.

Example: 10344_booleanimation.c4d.zip
