luminance of a material does not light close pyrocluster clouds
on Feb 8, 2016 at 11:07:52 pm

Hi guys

I am new to this forum, so I say hi to all! Got stuck with c4d problem ..

background: want to make cloud of pyroclusters, a lightning strike originates out of the cloud. the strike has a yellow material with luminance 500%
it lights the ground where it strikes but not the pyroclusters cloud ...
Global illumination is on
it works to light the pyroclusterclouds with ordinary lights in c4d

I have tried: different rendersettings, many different pyrocluster settings(like luminance), ....

here is a test scene that demonstrates the problem. the material on the sphere should shed light on the clouds, but does not

Can someone help me with this problem?
Thanks in advance

Pyrocluster doesn't seem to support GI. I think you'll have to fake it with a colored light if you want to go with Pyro. You'll also have to enable scene illumination in the Pyro material.

Hi Adam

thanks! I hoped that there is a way ..

here is the desired image(without illumination of the cloud)

I dont have to stay with pyrocluster for the cloud, is there another reasonable way?

the fake light works, but I want to make an animation with several ozillating strikes, so it would be complicated.

I tried to put an reflector beneath the cloud, but this does not work either

The only way I know of is to animate a light or lights to get the effect. Shouldn't be that difficult. Use colored lights with Inverse Square falloff.

Adam, I followed your suggestion

it works, thanks!!
although i limited the lights to the start and endpoint of the lightning, intersections with the clouds are not illuminated . to do this, I would have to modifiy the phyton skript and add lights along the spline, which would cost too much time for now

here is the result, still very basic but a start

one last time ;-)

would it be possible with a different renderer?
maybe furryball?

so ...

furryball and octane did not render the pyrocluster at all ...
maybe my fault, did not spend much time with it

I got a solution:

I converted the phytonskript bolt to a single polgyon object
assigned an area light with inverse square falloff
two hours fine tuning

you dont even need GI for it
