Apply FBX or AXYZ Mocap Data to Non-Human Object

I am trying to figure out how to apply the mocap data from AXYZ to inanimate objects. A good starting point could be a sphere or cube - how can I assign areas of the object to an arm or leg of the AXYZ rig?
Initially I thought this could be possible by using the FFD or Correction Deformers and simply assigning nulls influenced by AXYZ points to areas on the deformer cages.
This would create a cartoonish look that could be quite interesting to experiment with.
