Shifting Between Two Shaders with Plain Effector

I know similar things have been discussed, however I haven't figured out how any of them can work yet.

Right now I have a fractured object(holds sphere and children jiggle deformers) with color set to black. It has a plain effector set to change the color to white, while a second sphere with a tracer attached passes through.

A plain effector with falloff set to source (the tracer dropped in) changes the color to white as it goes through.

What I want to do is have 2 materials with separate reflection, color, etc be assigned for the original fractured object, and for when the plain effect goes through, but I cant seem to get it to happen.

What you could do is stack the materials and then put a mograph color shader in the top material's alpha channel.

When you say stack the materials, where exactly do you mean? In one of the shaders channels or just have multiple on the fracture object and allow the alpha of the first one (hierarchily read first by the object- if thats a word) to control when its shown or not?

Ill give that a try but correct me if you meant something else. Thanks!

Right - multiple shaders (texture tags) on the fracture object.
