Connect transparency to normal direction

Hi,

I'm new to Cinema 4D (come from Maya), but I'm trying to create shader that would allow me to make a series of Mograph planes transparent according to their global orientation. Specifically I am trying to simulate polarised light, so I would like the planes to be transparent if they are oriented at 0 or 180 degrees and transparent if they are oriented at 90 or 270 degrees (this is on the z axis) and smoothly in between like this:

I had some limited success achieving this using an Xpresso tag on one plane, and connecting the global rotation to the transparency of a material, but how do I do this for each individual object in the cloner? In fact, in general, how do make a material such that it affects whatever object it is put onto uniquely, or does C4D not operate like that?

Many thanks for your help,

Josh

It could probably be done with the Python Effector ... if you know Python. Unfortunately I don't.
