displacement - how far you can go?

actually i am exploring displacement
pretty detailed since it is so straight forward
with octane render.
i was just wondering about one specific thing,
the pictures explain it well, some overlapping
is not possible as far as i know.
Or further spoken, a way, to variate in the depht
of the displacement, with a 3d shader maybe.
