Hi.

I'm to create a helix that has a gradient (Black>Grey>White) but renders without shadows, effectively making it look 2d. Is this possible?

I have my helix with a gradient applied (I've tried applying the gradient in both the colour and luminance channels) but I can't figure out how to render without the shadows etc that give it the 3d look. I've tried playing with multipass settings but with no luck.

Below is where I am currently up to.


For bonus points, I'd like to know how to taper both ends. The Sweep Nurb only lets me taper the end.

You had the right idea using the luminance channel. Put the gradient in luminance and disable all the other channels and you should get what you're after.

I've done that but it's still not looking quite right....




As you can see, there are still shadows etc. Am I missing something?

Ah, I see my problem. I just needed to change the gradient type from 2d-Star to 2D-V.

Any suggestions on making it taper at both ends?

Cool.

You can make the helix taper but twirling down the sweep object's "Details" menu and adjusting the scale graph. Ctrl + Click the line to add points.
