How to make a flame flicker effect around a sphere?

Hey guys,

I'm creating an animation with flat textures and wanted to know how I would make a flame flicker like effect around a sphere (the sun in my scene).

I followed this tutorial: http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/tutorials/creating-2d-cartoon-fire-effects... which was great but has only let me emit the particles on one axis, I'd like it to randomly emit from all around the sphere.

Here is a screen and video of my scene:

Any tips or help about someone a bit more experienced would go about acheiving this would be great!

Thanks!

Dan.

Set the emitter type to cone and the horizontal angle to 270d. That way you'll have particles firing out to the sides all around the emitter. You'll have to up the particle count of course.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your input! It deffinately worked better but seems to have lost some of its finesse. It looks pretty clumpy. What would you do to get a nice effect as you can kind of see what im going for?

Also it emits in different directions now but not really all around it, would there be a way for it to emit 360 degrees around the sphere except not shoot out from the front (where the face is).

Finally, the transparency works to make it more opaque but I dont like the way the particles show through each other when they overlap, is there a way to turn up the transparency on like a laye or something instead?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help in advance! Really appreciate it! I've attached two videos following your advice (one cone, and one pyramid) so far.
