newbie question. Why am I getting an overlap?

the caps of your extrude are probably Ngons - or at least don't have enough subdivision - try setting them to Regular Grid. Or you are going to have to post the scene file as there is more than one way to get that sort of thing.

Thank you very much for that. I am new at this.

Here is my problem. I create a shape in Illustrator-merge in C4D- extrude with fillet caps-then I want to use subdivision to shape to look more like a bone.

Any ideas how to do this without all the polygons and/or a better way?

I am not sure that I can do what I want from a spline imported from Illustrator.

So I have started with a cube and am attempting to create the shape that way. It appears to be working.

if you are trying to give roundness to the face with the subD then, yes, it's better to model it
