Recomendations for realistic snow that responds to a snow plow.

I have a client that is comparing their angling snow plow attachment to competitors.

I have all of the elements covered except for the snow itself. It needs to be dynamic and realistic, the final result able to be rendered in a reasonable time - less than 3 days. I have over a month to complete the contract, so the 3 days of render time is at the back end.

Anybody have some ideas?

That's a tough one as snow is sort of like particles and sort of like a liquid. It could probably be done using Thinking Particles, but if it was me I would go the easier route and use the X-Particles plugin.

I tried a quick test here:

Needs a lot of work, obviously, but I think it could be made to look good and render relatively quickly. The above render took about 40 minutes on one machine.

Adam to the rescue again...

I was researching this again this morning and coming down to thinking particles, but this looks fantastic and at a high enough level of detail that the client will be very happy.

Thank you!

Hey Adam, are those particles able to be scaled down to a fraction of that size? I am very close to purchasing this but for 390 bucks, I need to make sure I can get the exact result I am looking for.

Yes, you can make the particles as big or as small as you want. Of course the smaller you make them the more of them you'll need to keep it looking like snow....

Maybe check out the demo before you purchase? Here's the scene I was playing with for reference: 7895_snowplow01.c4d.zip

That is very helpful, thank you!

How long was the render time?

Not sure but I remember that it was pretty quick -- maybe 20-25 minutes?
