Creating a Rocky or Diamond-Like Texture?

I apologize in advance as I'm a bit of newb to C4D. I've been using the 11.5 version and have recently been struggling with achieving a certain textural effect on an Illustrator file I've imported into C4D.
Attached is a screencap of the image I'm working with. I've been doing graphics for a comics website, and wanted to create an animation in which their logo transforms into diamond (like Emma Frost, of the X-Men).
I have the material settings all set to go, but I can't nail down a decent diamond texture effect...
I've experimented with using extrude nurbs with an FFD derformer, bezier nurbs, hypernurbs... I really don't know what I'm doing, so I end up getting nowhere.
TL;DR : Essentially what I'm looking for is a detailed recommendation for what you would do to give this logo (image attached in the link below) a 'diamond-like' texture or appearance. Imagine the front surface of that logo, with very angular/polygonal/hard-edged looking raised deformations sticking out of it.
