I want to obtain the object on the left but using subdivision surface instead of extruded spline and booleans.
I stopped at the point of making the part 1 and 2. Any suggest? Probably a easy task but I've just started modelling this way so I'm very noob.

here's the file

Thanks.

Unfortunately it's not really an easy task. SubD modeling takes time and patience ... and practice. It's a skill well worth developing, but for mechanical models like this ... if you're using R15 ... you may want to try using the Bevel tool instead. The new Bevel is pretty powerful.

Yes I'm using R15. Thanks for your suggestion, I'll try the new Bevel tool.

It's a pity that's too hard with SubD...
I found this solution but I can't be accurate on the small semicircle size besides I create triangles which, for what I read, have to be avoided if possible.

For part 2 (see first post) I've no idea how to proceed.

After some work I succeeded.
These tutorials help me a LOT: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbOD5j8bCas4HOi5OpspeVtTjtQwk5Cyw

But still can't model the external part, I tried but went out a little bit weird. (see picture below, on the right)
Any suggestion to model (sub-d) a solid made out from a strange shape and a boolean like this?

P.S. the file: 7254_strangesolid.c4d.zip
