Random Effector And Boole.

Hi guys, I am creating a wooden fence and have made the pickets by cloning one picket. I have then placed the cloner object inside a boole with several cubes to create holes where I have placed gates in the fence. Then I applied a random effector with two different materials to make the wood grain material look different on each clone. Unfortunately applying the effector has disabled the boole. Can you think of any way to fix this short of using duplicate to make a bunch of copies of the pickets (way too many polys) and actually cutting out the holes (14 in all) for the gates?

my first thought would be to use two pickets (for the two textures) and set the cloner to Random rather than Iterate and clone along a spline with gaps for your gates - though I don't know why your setup breaks, I'd probably have to see it.
