electric garage door

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me. I am trying to make an electric garage door that opens.

Here is the file.

I have used a cloner with a spline effector. I have animated the spline effectors offset but this seems to just keep creating more door panels.

Also the panel that moves around the corner looks strange as it splits from the others.

Is there another way of doing this to create panels that are linked together so it looks more realistic.

If anyone could offer any advise that would be great.

Cheers,

Rich

Watch this video at Grayscale Gorilla for the content of using a surface to clone your objects on.

Once you are happy with your garage door cloner then make it editable, then give them rigid body dynamics and at each pivot point between your door panels add a "dynamic" connector, select the hinge option. Once all your panels are setup with the connectors, add all of that to a null object, place the null at the very top of your door, then align the null with an align to spline tag, keyframe the position of the null.

I have a file I just made up for you, it's kinda crude, but it works

Thanks Thomas. I'll give that a go and let you know how I get on.

Oh the file you mentioned wasn't attached?

Cheers,

Rich

The file is located here:

http://www.grafxexchangeportal.com/uploads/garage_door_assembly.rar

Earlier I didn't see a way to upload it from here, I do now

The file is a crude way of doing it, you could also use the new character animation in C4D R13, if you have it, or by using expresso. I inserted a few notes within the C4d file what I did, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Sign up for a free membership, and if your interested in DPIT EFFEX files you can download some pre-configured files. Hoped this helped you some

Thanks Thomas and Brian. The spline wrap looks the simplist method.

Thanks again.

Rich
