Mirroring an object with hairs and feathers
on May 26, 2012 at 9:07:00 am

Hi, i'm trying to mirror a "wing" that i have modeled.
The problem is that when i try to create a mirrored duplicate, the guides of the hairs are pointing in the opposite direction.

Is there a way to exactly mirror the object? Such that it looks exactly the same when placed side by side.

build the wing, use the Symmetry object to duplicate it, add hair to the symmetry object, arrange the hair on one wing, select the hairs on that wing, use the Mirror tool (in the Hair Tools) in Interpolate mode to mirror the hair to the other wing.

Thanks for replying in such detail!

Edit: I'm sorry but just a quick question, how do I use the mirror tool? It doesn't seem to be responding. I've selected all the guides on the hair, and i'm clueless as to how to mirror it.

Sorry for the trouble but i'm not sure how to use the mirror tool.
With the hair guides selected, am I supposed to click and drag it somewhere or something(with the mirror tool)?

It's in interpolate mode and it's coords are on world, but it still doesn't do anything.

Edit: i've got the result i've wanted by using the clone mode, thanks for the help!

no click and drag with this tool, if you do it right you just hit the Apply button in the Tool tab of the mirror tool
