Connecting lines

I imagine this is already out there, I just can't find it! Any
tutorial or thread links would be much appreciated too...

On to the question,

I have a project that requires me to draw connections between
different clones, something like what the "atom array" object
produces. The challenge is that I want to connect clones to each other
with lines, but I need total control of which clones are connected to
others. I want to be able to use effectors on clone position so it's
important to have the lines follow after the clones.
I was thinking I could use the mograph selection tag to somehow drive
the points on a mesh or spline... I just don't know enough xpresso to
pull it off, basically I don't know how to send that data from the
mograph selection tag to the points of the object.

The effect I'm going for is the dots from a map of Europe connecting
over to the USA (think of the End Title Sequence of the Rise of The
Planet of The Apes)

Any advice, tips, links, or "magic button that solves everything"s
will be much appreciated!

Thanks very much

What do you mean by having complete control? Do you need the connections to animate?

You can use Xpresso to drive the location of spline points to tie them to clone's indexes (you would use that spline in a sweep nurb to create the connecting line).

Yeah! I want to be able to connect from one point on an object to another point on a different object and have a line animate across. So I definitely need that control of animating the line.

Have you seen the end titles for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

Let me know how you would go about doing this?
