Wall of cubes rotate and react with each other

Hi guys

I'm sure someone here has the answer. I just can't seem to hit this problem I'm having.

What I'm trying to do is make a wall of cubes rotate and react with each other. I've set up a cube, dropped it in a cloner, added a plain effector for the rotation and it all works a treat.

My problem is that the cubes overlap each other when they spin, as opposed to pushing each other out of the way upon impact when they rotate (the cubes are butted up against each other).

Short of doing this manually, is it possible with some soft of simulation... maybe a bit of Expresso?

Hope this makes sense and someone can shed a little light.

Cheers

Mike

do they all spin together at the same rate or is it random (or something else)?

Hi Brian, the cubes rotate 90 degrees as I pass the Plain Effector with box falloff through the wall of cubes.

I thought perhaps the rotation parameter could drive the x position so the cubes move out of each others way but the only problem is that the rotation goes from 0 - 90 while I need the x position to go from 0 - new x pos and then back to 0.

Bit stuck with this solution...

You'll need to put a rigid body tag on the cloner if you want the cubes to react to each other. You'll also have to turn off gravity in the project settings (to keep them from falling) and then adjust the follow animation parameters in the dynamics tag to mix the mograph and dynamics animation.

Hi Adam, that's awesome. Thanks for the solution :)

if you need the wall to close again it's probably easier to keyframe or use expresso
