Okay well hopefully my predicament is simple:

I have a scene that all renders together, but I only want one object to be visible in the render. I want the other objects to affect the render of the one object though if that makes any sense. I just want the alpha channel there, with nothing else visible besides my text that I'm making. However, there's stuff behind it, but if I turn that off during the render, most of the lighting goes away too :|

Thanks in advance to anyone who assists! :D

Probably the easiest way would be to group everything that you don't want to render under a null and give that null a compositing tag. Uncheck "seen by camera" in the tag.

Another option would be to give your text a compositing tag, enable an object buffer in the tag, and render a buffer pass. That gives you an alpha that you can use to isolate the object.
