Want to change textures randomly on items in a Cloner Object
on Sep 29, 2011 at 3:09:54 pm

Hi there,

I have a bunch of polygon objects inside of a cloner object. Each one of them represents a different page in a book.

I have a bunch of bitmap textures that I would like to apply randomly to the pages.

How do I do this easily?

Thank you for your assistance.

I'm personally not sure, but this tutorial may help you:

Create a material and place the mograph>multishader in the color channel. Load all of your image files into the multishader and drop it on the cloner. Assign a random effector to the cloner and turn off all parameters *except* for color mode, which you should set to "on". In the effector tab, set the mode to "sorted". That's all there is to it.

probably have to change the MultiShader's Mode to not be Index Ratio?

Right, it should be in color brightness mode, but that's the default setting.

thank you adam, i think this is what i was looking for. i'm trying to animate a pack of eames cards. my problem is each side of every card is different. how do i adapt your process to randomly asign different maps to both sides of the cards?

Thanks for all of your help. Haven't got to that part yet, but I'm sure it will be incredibly useful.

Another question: At a certain part of the animation, all the pages need to turn into a certain texture (the same for all of the pages).

How can I do that?

Thanks again.

Make a new material with the one page and Just change (and Keyframe) the Material in the Texture Tag on the cloner

Thanks, but I don't really understand.

Basically, I have a series of bitmap textures which I am going to use for on the cloner and randomize them with the random effector.

Then I have another texture that I want to all of the pages to turn into at the end.

So If I understand, I should apply the final texture to the object in the cloner and keyframe the Material Tag. However, the question is, what exactly do I keyframe in the material tag? There are many things to keyframe.

However, I do notice that there is no option to keyframe the texture map itself.

Thank you very much for your help. Need to get this done this weekend otherwise bad things will happen!

Texture Tag/Tag/Material You can put any material in there and keyframe. If you leave time between the keyframes to fade it only show the fade when you render.

Oh I see, the blending only appears during the final rendering!

In the "real time" rendering the texture just popped at the new keyframe.

I should have figured that.

Thank you so very much!
