I wanted to ask if there was another way to bend the object other than bend deformer. I am having a problem where i want a rectangle that is curled up to uncurl in segments rather than a whole. Does anyone have any advice? Like if a rolled up piece of paper starts to uncurl soon as it gets out the tube.

*An animated bend deformer (or two) would be my choice.
*You can get a also unfurl .... then you can get the weighting exact. But I would assume its far more work than its worth.
*If you are using r12 you could use a softbody on the paper.
* If you are not on r12 but have mocca you can get some nice paper effects with Cloth simulation.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

it can be done with Joints(bones) as well, there was a thread awhile ago that was a carpet unfurling. Search for carpet or parchment or scroll

I found what you are talking about here -->http://www.vimeo.com/12471575

This helps a whole lot but i still need my rectangle shape to bend differently at both ends. Is there a way to have two sets of joints in a shape?

you can use more than one joint chain and then use weighting to control what you need to

I have r12 studio at home but not a powerful computer.
I have a powerful computer at work but with r12 broadcast

I think the soft body solution would work but is that possible in broadcast edition?

I seemed to have when missed writing my thought above. The second point was about using joints.... To get multiple bends you would need a couple chains and weight them appropriately.

I dont think Broadcast does dynamics... not sure though.

This guy did this animation with only bend deformers.

I found something really cool out for a solution for me. I had to play with one setting in Mesh Deformer. So in a way i used two bend deformers on one object
