Illustrator into C4D?

I would like to take advantage of drawing splines in Illustrator and importing
them into C4D but my extensive rummaging in the manual has not located
how to go about this process.

I would like to use them in 2 ways if possible:

1. In a NURBS extrude
2. In a Spline object

Thanks

C4D Studio Bundle v10, Adobe Illustrator CS2, Mac OS 10.4.9

here is quick step by step:

- create your path in Illustrator
- drag the Ruler Origin to the center of your paths (doing this makes your spline come in centered in C4D)
- save your file (or a copy) in Illustrator 8 format

- Open or Merge this .ai file in C4D
- if you get multiple splines C4D choose Objects > Connect from the Objects Manager menu. this creates a single new spline
- make this spline a child object to an Extrude Nurbs
- adjust the Z Movement of the Extrude Nurbs

there may be some gotchas, but this is basicly it.

hello sasha!!!

thanks for ur advise,id like to ask u a question though!

ive designed a spade in illustrator(spade:cards)and made it looking like a metalic spade with gradient and it looks shiny and all and its does consist of 10 objects i have grouped them though so the objects move all together!but when i import it to 4d cinema all i see is white outlines!besides saving it as an a.i file do i have to do anything else in illustrator in order to get it into 4d cinema the way i see it in my illustrator a a metallic gradient spade?!

thanks best regards!

when you're importing .ai into C4D you will never get more than outlines. no fills, no strokes, etc...

if you need an illustrator design in C4D, the only way would be exporting the fill of your design as an image, and then use this as texture in C4D. but how good this will work depends a lot on your specific design...

also, if the type doesn't show up as an extrude after you drob the ill8 outlines into the xnrb, make sure the hierarchical check box in the xnurb object properties is checked. it's a slight gotcha', at least it got me.

That is quite the gotcha - 8 years later and it hasn't changed. Ugh.
