Texturing programs and workflow

Im very new to 3ds max and was previously working with Cinema 4D as a hobby, i got a few jobs on music videos creating backgrounds and such.
I loved it so much i decided to jump into the deep end buying a new pc and getting right into the 3d world with 3ds max.
I feel like i have a solid grip on polygon modeling from what i have learned in the past but am clueless to the best workflow in texturing.
I just need some help from you lovely people, iv looked into vray as right now iv just got the integrated mental ray.
im willing to spend money on standalone programs aswell.
looked into mudbox had a play around and zbrush also 3d coat and a few others, they all seem great and indepth.
But from a texturing standpoint i just dont know where to go.
Im creating short animations of rooms/hallways any type of setting that i want to be relatively photo realistic and inter lay green screen footage of band members to create music videos.
sorry for the long question but would love to open a dialog before spending money on something i may or may not need.
