Hi Im completely new to 3d max and really only required it for breaking down a 3d helicopter model. Im actually using element 3d to import my model unfortunately in element 3d the helicpter blades and rear rotas are attached as a group. The only way i can seperate these 2 items is through 3d max.

I had a go with no luck . Ungroup is not highlighted so thats out
Next was Frozen and simply did nothing except turn the objects on and off

As simple as it may be im lost on this one. any help appreciated

The simplest way would be to convert the model (if it is indeed one single object) into an Editable Poly, and then Detach the parts you want to be separate objects. It's possibly much more complex than this, so you'll be better off learning enough about Max through the many tutorials on the Autodesk Area website.

It's also possible that the model is one single mesh, but it may be broken into texturing elements by Material IDs. In that case, you could select by Material ID, then Detach the pieces and name them. Also make sure you know what's going to be needed to get the pieces in to Element 3D so that they can be texture mapped - there's info for that on the Video Copilot website.
