Hi - is there any way to alter the rendered opacity value of multiple objects within an entire layer in 3d max ? (The objects have different materials assigned to them...these materials are also used on other objects in other layers). The scene in question is quite complex so altering the visibility of individual objects or assigning unique materials with adjusted opacity values will take too long and is therefore not an option.
Any suggestions would be great.

I think that there's a setting for the layer's opacity in layer properties/render settings. According to the Max help files:

Visibility—Controls the rendered visibility of the object. At 1.0, the object is fully visible. At 0.0, the object is completely invisible when rendered. Default=1.0.
