Question on morphing

Morpher translates the morphed vertices in a *straight* line - from their initial position to their morphed position.
But... what do I do if I have a facial animation that implies vertices moving on a *curved* trajectory- for example a smile, that has to go laterally and up in a circular way?
Do I still use morpher or something else? What is the standard way of tackling this problem?
