MAYA preview window VS MAX
on Nov 9, 2012 at 2:16:49 am

Hi,
Although I love Max, the one thing I ALWAYS HATED was the lack of saving your render tests by storing them in the viewer.
For example, Maya allows you to keep saving you images and by clicking forwards or backwards, you can compare images.
As far as Iknow, you have to CLONE images and then put them side by side to compare.
This makes comparing fine details extremely hard.

Does anyone know of a better way to get that "MAYA Preview" in Max?

Thanks

Max has had the RAM Player for some time now, at the very least since Max 2011, which allows you to compare stills or animations side by side in A/B windows:

Yeah I use that when want to playback my rendered sequence.

But If I want to do a quick render and compare 2 images, I would have to SAVE BOTH images and then load them into RAM PLAYER.
It seems like too much work.
I guess Maya won that round in Render previews.

I think it's much simpler than that - read up on it a bit. I'm pretty sure you can render a still to Channel A, then one to channel B, and then view them side by side.

Thanks, I did read it, you're right. It's not as simple as maya or convenient, but it's a nice work around.
Basically, there's a button called LAST RENDERED IMAGE and it will load your image into RAM A or B
Again, not as good as maya but good enough.
Thank You
Lou

No problem - I've been using Max for over ten years, and I only found out about it a few months ago. Max is so deep with features that it's sometimes tough to find them all.
