Hi Everyone,
Is there any way to be able to open new versions of
3Dmax files/models inside of 3D Max 2009 (old versions etc).

Or if 3D Max 2009 is still valuable in a current workflow

3ds Max is not directly backwards compatible unfortunately :(

Depending on the model you could try exporting it as
.3ds / .obj / .fbx from the new version -
then importing it into 2009.

I'd ensure the stacks are completely collapsed, x-forms are all reset and the object is as 'pure' as possible.

Simply opening something made in a newer version ain't going to happen.

I would say Max 2009 will still do 80 to 90 percent of what Max 2013 will do. There are always new interoperability and features coming out, but you can still do professional level 3D work with it. As always, it's a case of the talent trumping the tools.
