Im somewhat new to 3DS Max, but I have began modifying a video game. The character in it has a plain beanie-type hat. I would like to try to reshape that into a fishing hat, but without creating new objects. I hope you guys understand what I mean.
I would suggest that you use the Graphite Modeling tools in Max. You need to make sure that your model is a polygon object, or right click on it, then convert to polygons.
Then take a look at this:
You should have no problem getting the shape you want using the Graphite tools. It make take some learning, doing, and redoing. While you're at it, it couldn't hurt to work your way through the Max Channel on YouTube. There's a wealth of learning there, especially for the beginner.
