Sorry if this is a question thats often asked and often answered, I'm still pretty new to the forums, and I apologize for any pre-established rules I might be breaking. But I was wondering, where is a good place to start learning how to use the program 3ds Max? It would really help a lot if there was somewhere where I can learn first the layouts and tools of the program (and the purpose they serve), and the ideas behind why things are the way they are within the program. That would really go a long way in helping me, so thanks. It's always tough to start learning things by yourself, so again, thank you for your patience.

Kevin -

Here's the best place to start - right at the source - run by Autodesk, and with high quality teaching materials - free:

Another great place - although not free - is Lynda.com. Good luck!

Hi Kevin,

Mr. Bourke probably has it right in going to the horse's mouth so to speak. I'm in the same boat. I just downloaded 3DS Max the other day. I've been watching a lot of tutorials on youtube though I do have one question I am about to post on this forums. Good luck!

John

I really appreciate it Mr. Bourke. It's just hard choosing a starting point, so thanks for leading me in the right direction.

Kevin and John -

Don't forget that Max also comes with a lot of tutorial files, many of which go along with the training materials on the Area. You can work through the tutorials in Max as you view them - one of the best ways to learn such a complex piece of software.

You'll find the tutorials for Max 2013 here:

If you have earlier versions, the links are below on the same page.
