Adding a 'stroke' to my H shape

Hi all, I'm new to 3ds and would really appreciate some basic directions! I need to recreate that H (made in Photoshop and AEffects) in 3D, as I plan to have it whizz down a corridor (like the X-factor intro). So far I have the white bit, which is a bit shambolic - but I would like to try and add a thin red stroke around it and then a thicker black one.

I understand that the 'stroke' will be a polygon, but what sort of method is easiest to achieve it? I'd rather not attempt to make several boxes and rotate/cut and position them around the white H (unless I have to)! Any guidance greatly appreciated!

Ensure you're in poly mode [edit poly]
Then select all your side edges - easiest way is generally to select all faces and then deselect the front and back - so you just have the sides selected (highlighted red).
Now hit the extrude - make sure it's in [local normal] mode and extrude away.
Using [bevel] will allow you to also change the thickness if you wish.
Keep building up these extrusions until you get enough 'strokes'.
Hope this helps!

Ahh sweet, that makes sense. Once I extrude the faces, are they then separate 'elements/objects' that I can colour and resize or do I have to cut them away from the original white H element?

Thanks for the response!

They aren't automatically seperate elements but you can apply different materials to each extrusion - it's probably easier to apply each material as you go along with the extruding.
