I'm optimizing the rendering for an animation in 3Ds Max, using Mental Ray. The scene is made in Vue, so it's a very complex scene, and when I turn on the build in motion blur function in mental ray, the render time jumps from 3 minutes to 30 minutes. That's pretty harsh, considering the full render time jumps from 3 days to a month - and that's even with a pretty low Antialiasing setting.
I'm not very experienced with rendering in either mental ray or Vue, so it might also just be a knob that is tweaked wrong. But I've been over all the settings, and I can't really see anything that I don't need, and any numbers that are unusually high. Is there any way to optimize the motion blur, or perhaps use data from 3DS max to generate the motion blur after the rendering, for example in After Effects? Any good tips?
Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Why not drop motion blur in 3ds Max and add it in post. Re:vision has a great plugin called reelsmart motionblur for After Effects....check it out.
