When baking my normal maps in Max 2011, I sometimes get edges that do not look very smooth on my model. Corners tend to produce normal lines that are jagged and don't have a solid color. I understand that my normal map resolution is low, but it doesn't seem like this is necessary. I don't have any missed rays in this area, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.
In general, I have had issues with right angled corners. I don't want to use chamfered corners because I'm trying to keep a low tri count. Seems like there should be a solution. Also, regular inset lines (on flat, horizontal surfaces) sometimes create an error here and there. Not sure if that's related.
Any ideas? Should I just paint out the problems? I'm hoping for a procedural solution.
