MR reflection trap!
on Dec 10, 2010 at 4:14:14 pm

i have three elements:

1. An object (a bottle with arch design glass material)
2. A reflector (a simple white plane with standard material with high self illumination, made not visible to the camera in the object properties... just for casting reflection on the bottle)
3. The floor (mental ray matte/shadow/reflection material)

i only want the reflector's reflection on the bottle and not on the floor.

any suggestion/tips to do it without rendering it twice!

I would replace the reflector with a photometric light and use the light source shape, include/exclude button and make light visible to camera options. Gives a lot more control.

If you dont want to change the reflector object you can use a raytrace map in the matte/shadow/reflection material, you can then use the "local exclude" button in the material editor.
