I just bought a .max model from a stock site and thought that I'd be able to open it in Blender.... wrong. After looking around, I realized that I'm waayyy wrong. There really isn't anything that can convert a .max file other than Max.

I'm wondering if there's a good samaritan out there that would convert this file for me? I work for a non-profit constitutional law firm and we don't have the resources to buy Max. Remember the Kelo case that the supremes (wrongly) decided in '05 over whether New London, Conn could take homes for private developers? That was our case.

So, in exchange for simply converting this file, I'm willing to trade services for something from our store. Maybe a "Blight Me" t-shirt or USB drive?

I guess you can download a trial version of 3dsmax and do that yourself. besides beeing pedagogic, it will let you configure exactly what and how to export the object, depending on your needs =)
