Multi Core

Little mystery here. I have two computers
one is a quad core one is a dual quad core (so 4 versus 8 processors)

The 4x renders at maximum on each processor

the 8x renders at 25%-50% on 5 of the processors and barely ticks over on the other 3. It is much slower at rendering.

Any ideas??? (and the multithread check box is on)

If the 4-core computer has more RAM than the 8-core one, and the scene requires at least the max RAM size of the 8-core, it may try to use the virtual memory and do a lot of read/write on the hard disk that is much, much slower than the RAM. Get a look at disk access or memory usage.

Got a similar problem with a hungry scene: a dual-core with 8Gb RAM was x5 faster than a dual-Xeon E5550 with 4 Gb RAM!
