noob?: parenting a model with bones to another object

Downloaded a model of an elephant from Turbo Squid - he's got bones and an animation loop so he can walk around and swing his trunk, etc.

In this part of my project though, I don't need him to walk. I just need to have him stuck to a sphere object, which I will rotate around and have him follow.

When I try to use the link tool to parent him, though, he ends up squished into what looks like a very painful position. What am I missing? I can't think of what terms to google for that aren't overly broad.

Indy the Elephant's chiropractor thanks you in advance.

Try using a POSITION constraint.. This is different from a "regular" link.. You will tell the constraint that you want to affect ONLY the POSITION.. NOT ROTATION !! What should happen is.. your ball will be rolling around.. and let's say.. following a path.. the link constraint will be pulling on the ROOT bone.. but not rotating it.. therefore, your skeleton won't be rotating around and crushing poor Indy to death...

Let me know if that works for ya!

Aloha
