Hello. Hope this is the right place. I have searched for an answer to this seemingly simply question.

I just switched from Lightwave to 3DS Max.

Lets say you are modeling a "D" with a bevel modifier. So you have a front, bevel, sides and back. You want to assign materials to each section.

Is there a way to select one poly in the bevel for example, and then select the rest of the bevel poly's en masse rather than 1 by 1?

LightWave has a short cut that will automatically select all of the adjacent poly's.

It can get rather tedious selecting individual polys on a big model. I know there has to be a way.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey
its easy infact. I don't know how much u r familier with max ... but hope so.

In poly edit when in sub object level there is a check box called 'By angle' and degrees are specified. As you adjust the degree threshold one face selected will propagate the selection further depending on angle value.

In mesh similar option is named with ignore visible edges and also angle threshold.

I hope this helps. cheers!

Thanks my friend. That did the trick! Once I figured out the proper angle. Any tricks to getting that number the first time?
