Biped Horizontal Position

I am having major trouble keeping the horizontal position (Z) in an animation. I check "Save Segment at Current Position and Rotation". However, when I reload the saved file the animation is at the original "Z" position of the biped not the adjusted "Z" position. What could I possibly be doing incorrectly? How can you make a biped jump onto an object in Max? This operation should not be this difficult.
