I was previously creating a rather complicated shape using splines and the extrude modifier. But later I found out that the booleans did not function right for the extruded shapes. The image is the lion head on the box, http://lebrontalk.com/content/sept05/lebron_3_box/zoom_lebron_3_box.jpg Any suggestions on how to build it into a 3d logo? I really need help.

What version of max are you using? In max 8, if you are a subscriber, the you can use the Probooleans Object which will work much better then standard bools.
However if you just wish to emboss this logo on a box then you can use a displacement map. Make a decent size black and white texture and apply it to you max material in the displacement slot, give it a negative value.
If you are using VRAY for rendering check out the VrayDisplacementMod. It's a bit more powerfull.
