Trying to make a wave inside of text.

Created Word with Text, extruded.

Created Box with multiple seqments
Added Z axis noise to box and animate

Boolean the Text with the Box (intersection)

It works to a point.

During the animation the boolean object pieces flicker in and out. Sometimes more than the intersection, sometimes less.

Is there a better way to do this?

I tried tesselating both objects and got the same result.

Does it need to be a 3D boolean? i.e. the simplest way is to use an opacity map - render your wavy topped box white on black then load this as the opacity map for the text.

are u or your company able to get Subscription on max8? If so ProBooleans would probably take care of this easily. Great new Boolean & Cutter tools THAT REALLY WORK!!! And you can animate the cutters easily. Check out the vids on their website.

From traditional Booleans, higher res to start with can help sometimes, or as otherwise mentioned, Opacity maps in max or even in the compositing software--combustion, AE or Fusion would also do a reasonable job, depending on the "3D' nature of the results you are after?

They have been (until ProB's) a real pain tho often!)
