workstations performance

HY everybody, i have two questions that are driving me crazy.
With one friend of mine we test the performance of our workstation that are:

1- Dell Precision 670 (desktop two processors!):
2 x intel xeon 3.0 Ghz,fsb 800 mhz,1MB cache L2
NVIDIA FX 1400 128 MB
RAM 1 Giga

2- Dell Precision M70 (mobile workstation):
single (obviously!) Intel Centrino 2.0 GHz, fsb 533 mhz, 2 MB cache L2
NVIDIA FX 1400 GO 256 MB
RAM 2 Giga

We render a single frame of a simple scene included in 3d studio max 7.5, exactly the one about new plugin

hair and fur called HairStyle01.max and we obtained the following result:

1- Dell Precision 670 (desktop two processors!)_____________________________17 seconds
2- Dell Precision M70 ( mobile workstation!) single processor_______________16 seconds

My first question is: how is it possible that a single processor mobile bang the dual one?

And the second is: looking at the task manager during the render of the
Dell Precision 670 (two processors!) i saw that the use of processor is only 25%...

is this correct or there is something to set up to obtain best performance for the dual processor?
isn't lower and subused?

i hope someone can answer me and.....sorry for my imperfect english, i'm an italian guy!

I would guess it is due to the difference in the quantitiy of RAM. The workstation has 1GB and the laptop has 2GB - so maybe it is due to the pagefile? Try again with 2GB on the workstation and see what happens.
